App Store and Google Play character limits.
Every metadata field on both stores has a hard limit, and App Store Connect and Play Console reject anything longer. Here they are side by side, with what each field is for.

What this means for ASO
On the App Store, the name, subtitle and keyword field are the only text Apple searches. That is 160 characters in total, so every character counts and no word should appear twice across the three.
On Google Play there is no keyword field. The title, short description and full description are all indexed, so work your main keywords naturally into the description.

Questions
How long can an App Store app name be?
30 characters. The subtitle is another 30.
How many characters is the App Store keyword field?
100 characters, with keywords separated by commas. Spaces after commas count, so leave them out.
What is the Google Play short description limit?
80 characters. The full description can be up to 4,000.
Does the App Store description affect search ranking?
No. Apple searches the app name, subtitle, keyword field and in-app purchase names, not the description. Google Play does index the description.
